MEng graduate Amulya Aluru interned at Jean Piaget University of Cabo Verde in the fall of 2024, where she worked on a project centered around understanding what factors impact vector borne disease, from climate change to nutrition. She met with Cape Verdean officials in various public and private sectors to gain access to public health records, climate data, and nutritional information.
"This experience was my first time doing public health research and it was very informative to learn about bureaucracy in government offices and the importance of networking. I was able to meet with and learn from individuals in high positions in a wide range of fields, which also gave me insight into what different jobs could look like. I am planning to go to graduate school in fall 2025 to study biology, and I think this MISTI experience has shaped how I will approach my studies, from choosing a lab to connecting with mentors."Amulya Aluru '24
